World Book Day Review : Paddington Goes for Gold

We were sent Michael Bond's 'Paddington Goes for Gold' to review from the people at Harper Collins.  The book is a beautiful large hardback with shiny gold edges, and perfect for this Olympic year.  The Paddington books have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over 30 different languages.  I remember the stories from my childhood and was excited to introduce them to Dylan.

Paddington Goes for Gold is the perfect read for
a sports crazy season, with Paddington attending a local sports event with the Brown family.  He can't wait to get his little paws into as many events as possible, but as usual when Paddington is involved, things just seem to go awry, and the results prove outrageously sticky!  Will Paddington go home with any prizes?  Or will he have to be content with the knowledge that it isn't the winning that counts, it's the taking part.

The book has everything you love from the original Paddington tales, which have been around since 1958 (with the publication of 'A Bear called Paddington), with a great story, large colourful pictures, and marmalade sandwiches.  We loved reading it together and looking at the pictures and  I thought that the story was great for children.  Paddington is a British institution and this book reminds us why we love him so much.


Paddington is an ambassador for Action Medical Research.  The 60th anniversary of this very worthwhile charity is in 2012 during which there will be a national awareness campaign.  In april this year there will also be another new Paddington tale with 'Paddington Races Ahead'.  We can't wait to read it!
