Homemade Nursing dress / Breastfeeding Fashion

I have finally found a way to combat the boring post pregnancy / nursing wardrobe - make your own! Homemade, made to fit, made to feed nursing dresses are so easy that even an absolute beginner like me can make!

Breastfeeding and fashion are two words rarely put together.  Having to get your boobs out at any moment limits what you can wear, and the inevitably flabby post baby tum is best kept covered.  After 7 months, I have perfected the art of dressing to feed, but there are still those lovely knitted dresses at the back of my wardrobe that have now gone unworn all winter.

There are very limited places to buy feeding friendly clothes, and they are usually complete with high pricetag, and boring colour options. When I first went searching,

Does following god make you a Christian? Life in the Twittersphere

I reluctantly joined the world of Twitter in February this year.  After deciding early on that it wasn't for me, an essential part of blogging seems to be embracing the social media and so I dove in.  A profile was created, I found some people to follow and I tweeted.  After only a few short weeks I now cannot imagine a day without the all consuming twittersphere.

With it's own language, I now have over 400 followers, and I follow over 600 'tweeps'.  I have got to grips with my #hashtags and am picking up blogging etiquette.  On my journey into the wonderful world of tweets I have discovered that EVERYONE has twitter. Now I don't just mean your average people.  I am following God (aka Lord_G_Almighty).

Reasons to be Cheerful

Thursdays always make me realise how fast the week has gone!  This week has been much less cheerful due to a poorly little baby and a lot of projectile vomiting, but my glass is still half full.  Here are this weeks reasons to be cheerful.

1) A wonderful parcel came through the post from my lovely friend Abbey who emigrated to Australia in August.  A parcel full of sugary goodness.  I have been craving Timtams since I got home from travelling three years ago and finally this desire is being fulfilled.

I bet mine is bigger than yours

Nothing prepares you for the competition that is being a parent.  Every mum seems to exaggerate what her child can do, pushing them and hoping for them to reach those milestones before her peers.  There are so many websites telling us what our baby should be doing at each age, and the pressure to have a baby who is 'advanced' is unbelievable.

Baby websites are full of well meaning advice and tick lists to measure your child's development against.

Review - Rusks and Rebels

I was very excited to see what the lovely people at Rusks and Rebels had sent me, and when I opened my parcel to find Haribo, I was over the moon!  Neatly wrapped in a paper bag in their logo colours and sealed with a R&R logo sticker.  How did they guess my haribo weakness?

They had also sent something for Dylan, a beautiful white romper with a train barcode design and his date of birth on the front.
I love Dylan in traditional baby grows, especially for quiet days in as they look so comfy.  This one has a funky edge in the brilliant print, and is something to add to the baby box as it is personalised in a unique way, with a birth date.

Listography - 5 Reasons I know I . . .am blonde

Listography is run by the fab KateTakes5, and this weeks is 5 reasons I know I am. . .   There are a lot of possible endings to this, but here are 5 reasons I know I am blonde;

1)  I can't work the switch box.  If the lights go out or the power cuts I have to get the bloke to put them back on.  I know it is a simple switch thingamajig but
I just don't get it!  I would rather spend the day in the darkness that try and figure it out.

2)  On my first date with the bloke I told him that I wanted to live in an Eskimo.

Over reacting?

I think of myself as quite a laid back mum.  I have never taken Dylan to the doctors, I have always been a little slack on the sterilising, and my house is far from spotless.  I am of the opinion that what doesn't kill them makes them stronger.  Children can grow up in too much of a bubble, and they are usually the ones who develop allergies to anything and everything.

I was blessed with a healthy child.  Other than the occasional runny nose, Dylan has been happy and healthy for 7 months, and I have had no reason to panic.  Until now.

What was top of the pops the day your child was born?

On the day Dylan was born the last thing on my mind was what was top of the pops.  In fact, since I turned 13 I haven't been too interested in it.  Rock music is more my thing, and although I enjoy how catchy some of the pop music is, I am definitely not in touch with the charts.

The number one was in fact JLS (feat Dev) She Make me Wanna.

Reasons to be Cheerful #R2BC

Here we are again, another Thursday and another list!  Here are this weeks 'Reasons to be Cheerful'

1)  We have tried a new technique to help the baby sleep better and it is working!  We have dropped his bedtime feed so that he now has dinner and milk about half 5 and then goes to sleep at 7 without anymore milk.  I was rather dubious but the gamble has paid off and he now goes through until at least 4 every night without waking *frantically searches for some wood to touch*.

2)  I have learnt something new!

Why I couldn't be a midwife

After much careful deliberation, I have decided that midwifery could never be the career from me.  After watching a lot of One Born Every Minute, I have decided my favourite part of the job is the cups of tea and biscuits that seem common in the staff room.  I am in awe of real life midwifes, but it is not the job for me, and here is why;

1)  I would be an emotional wreck.
I cry at every single episode of OBEM- I cannot imagaine how I would be in real life.  Babies have a way of turning to me into mush, which has only got worse since having one.

2) I don't do bodily fluids.

The End of February

I set myself a challenge at the beginning of February to do something new everyday either with the baby or for him, and after a lot of hard work (coming up with ideas that is), I managed it.  During February we played with saucepan drums, made our own finger paints and

Mummy Friends

Don't get me wrong, before having a baby, I had friends.  I had work friends, friends from school, friends from uni, travelling pals, drinking buddies, friends of friends.  I had plenty of friends.  Since having a baby I have created a new sub-category of friends - the mummy friends.

Maternity leave leaves you with a lot of free time, and with the majority of friends working during the day, not much to do with it.  Making new friends is the perfect solution to this, and Children's centres are the way forward.

Day 27- Funday Monday

The children's play area is a staple of winter entertainment.  I defy a parent not to give in to the lure of warmth, tea and the children entertaining themselves for a couple of hours.  Dylan may not be able to entertain himself, but I did have plenty of offers from lovely 4 and 5 year old children who could 'babysit' for me.  (politely declined)

The ball pit was an immediate hit, and a lovely young girl decided to try and bury him.

Day 28- The Fragility of Life

Not all new things are good things.  Experiencing first hand the fragility of life is an example.  Funerals are not enjoyable, not exciting and certainly not something a young child needs to know about, but they happen.  We are all mortal, and unfortunately we learn far too regularly just how mortal.

I was 18 when I went to my first funeral.
It was my grandmas.  I remember certain things;  what I wore, the way the sky looked, how many people came along, how fragile life felt.  There are a lot of things I don't remember.  Dylan won't remember anything from his first encounter.  He won't know that he brought smiles- a new life, uncorrupted and aside from tragedy.  He won't remember how I held him that night, never wanting to let him go. But he was there.  Life is fragile and bad things happen to good people.  Without wanting to sound cliched 'live every moment like it was your last'

World Book Day Review : Paddington Goes for Gold

We were sent Michael Bond's 'Paddington Goes for Gold' to review from the people at Harper Collins.  The book is a beautiful large hardback with shiny gold edges, and perfect for this Olympic year.  The Paddington books have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over 30 different languages.  I remember the stories from my childhood and was excited to introduce them to Dylan.

Paddington Goes for Gold is the perfect read for
