Simple Pleasures

I can give my toddler all the shiny plastic toys in the world, but at the end of the day, the thing that makes him happiest is the great outdoors.  He has always preferred being outside, since his newborn days and come rain, snow or shine - if he is given a choice, he will be in the garden.

We can spend half an hour in the park enjoying the swings and the slides, and then
an hour leaving the park as he needs to stomp through the leaves, kick them, swish them and throw them.  He wants to point out colours and different shapes and ask me what everything is.  He wants to look for squirrels (and horses?) and he wants to explore his environment.

When it is wet though, he is in his absolute element.  Rain means only one thing to a toddler and it isn't a hot chocolate in the nearest Starbucks unfortunately.

Puddles.

His favourite pastime during the wet season is of course puddle splashing.  Even in the middle of a heatwave, Dylan has a skill at sourcing out a puddle from somewhere.  He hasn't yet mastered jumping with both feet off of the floor (although he is so close now) but this doesn't stop him stomping those wellington boots around and coating himself and anyone that comes near.

Sometimes I think we can all learn so much from these little people.  They have such simple pleasures and they enjoy them with the biggest smile on their faces.  Nature and all its elements are celebrated.  Last week we went out despite the rain, but I think Dylan thought that we went out because of the rain.  I bought him some new wellies, covered in rockets and spaceships and off he went!

Sometimes the simple things in life are absolutely the best!

  4. Fab photos! With so much to do at the moment, it's been tough to find as much time to venture out as much as we normally do. One of CK's favourite things is to go 'plashing in muddy muddles (it sounds so cute with his little lisp too).

We are out in all weathers too, the little guys just get bored if we stay in for too long x

  6. I love that first photo! I think I will have a shock as J gets older as I've heard boys tend to have a lot more energy than girls and always want to be out running around whereas Cherry would be happy to have hot choc in Starbucks! I had better make the most of these last few months of him not walking! x

  9. Simple things made special by sharing them with people that love you, and the best present we can give our children is our time. The expression of pure joy on Dylan's face is lovely, he's having such a great time in the rain. Thanks for linking up and sharing your outdoor fun with Country Kids.

  12. That first photograph is an absolute winner. What fun, and I absolutely agree. Our little ones often remind me to see the magic in small things and to be present in the moment.
