One Week In

We have now been a family of four for one whole week.

A week of welcoming our new arrival, spending every spare minute watching him sleep, stroking his beautifully soft skin, checking his ten tiny fingers and toes and wondering how we got to be so lucky to have two gorgeous little boys.

A week of learning the logistics of getting out the house with two, getting them both up, fed and dressed in the morning before we go out, and a week of practice with a double pushchair - steering it round shops, putting it up and down and watching the admiring glances.

A week of learning to breastfeed again.  Despite having fed Dylan for several months it still feels like a new experience and luckily one which we seem to be doing well at.  It has certainly been a week full of practice!

A week of barely sleeping - waking every time the little guy squeaks to check on him, and feeding him rather often through the night.  A week of sleepy cuddles, lazy cuddles and cuddles just because he is finally here and I can.

A week of introducing Dylan to the idea that he is now a big brother, and letting him know that this tiny little baby is really ours and going to stay.  A week of teaching him to be gentle and a week of hearing him ask for bubba every morning when he gets up.

A week of visitors, with everyone wanting a cuddle with our gorgeous boy -  lots of them bringing cakes and biscuits with them!  A week of strangers asking about him and women of all ages cooing over our gorgeous baby boy.

A week of tiny nappies and tiny newborn clothes and all the washing that comes with a tiny newborn digestive system.  A week of muslins, blankets and those tiny little hats to keep my baby snug and cosy through this wintery weather.

A week of realising that our hearts had so much more space in them than we ever realised.  That we can love Dylan just as much as always, but also love this new little person with everything we have.  A week of enjoying time as a family as the bloke is on paternity leave. A week of learning, growing and loving.

A week of new adventures as a family of four.

  6. That is such a lovely post, it brings it all back - the excitement and relief and anticipation and hope x

Even after 4 previous children with 6 1/2 years of breastfeeding and only a 6 month break, it still felt new again when I had no.5 :D

  11. Beautifully written post. You seem like such a natural mummy.

Your boys are absolutely beautiful, loving the last pic!

Goodness, I'm getting broody again. I just gave birth to my 4th baby 10 weeks ago. I'm already trying to convince my OH that it woul be lovely to have another baby if we were able to in the near future. He is not having any of it though.
