Visiting Copenhagen with AirBnB

Airbnb, Copenhagen, denmark, travel with children, travel with toddlers

When we were looking for places to stay on our recent Denmark trip, one of the options that stood out was AirBnb.  Since having children we have found it easier to stay a little outside the city centre on holidays, as for the same price you can get more space, which helps make it a holiday for all of us.

Whilst hotels have many benefits, we love being able to put the boys to bed and stay up having some time as a couple.  In a shared room we end up playing cards by phone-torch light, but we chose a spacious house in the outskirts of the city which had a bedroom for the boys, one for us and plenty of communal space.

AirBnB was easy to navigate and even though we left planning the trip until the last minute we had plenty of choice.  We settled on a three bedroom house with a large garden and it was a perfect family space.

Peter was our host, and he moved out into an adjoining house for the week, meaning we had the run of the place.  He left bedding and towels for us to use and the fees you pay include cleaning, although we did give it a good tidy up before we left.  He greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the house, and he was only a text away if we needed anything.

Having a private garden meant that the boys could run around outside in the morning, stretching their legs and expelling energy ready for the 20 minute bus ride into town.  Having our own kitchen meant we could save money by eating breakfast at home every morning, and coming back for dinner when we wanted to.  The house came with two cats, who whilst they didn't live inside, were our responsibility to feed and the boys loved their job every morning and evening.

AirBnB worked out only a little cheaper than a hotel once you factor in our travel into the city, but I think we definitely saved money this way with the little things.  There was extra transport - it took us around 20 minutes to get into the city centre, but it meant the boys had some quiet time to wind down after a day out.  We had a park around the corner and we could walk past horses, ponies and goats on our way to the train station.  There was a small town with a supermarket, some shops and a beach which gave us an opportunity for some down time amidst all the adventure.

I would really recommend looking at AirBnB when travelling with small children.  It is worthwhile looking for a house that is used to young children as they are more likely to be equipped for them.  Some have cots and highchairs already which means you can travel light.  Ask questions before choosing the perfect place to stay - make sure you know about any animals, rules and whether the host will be around or away.

  7. I've not used AirBnB myself, but am intrigued by it after reading about it a few times now on blogs. It feels like it would be a great home from home experience.

  9. We have only tried Air BnB once but we really loved our stay in Norfolk with them. It feels so much more authentic being in someone else's house. I would love to visit Copenhagen. x

  12. What an amazing place to stay! I find self catering so much easier with kids in tow - you can relax far more than in a hotel.
