Never let your Imagination run out

We are at such an exciting part of Dylan's life at the moment.  At four years old he has just started school and he has embarked on the most amazing adventure - the one that will take him from  engrossed listener to (hopefully) avid reader.  The start is slow but I can already see the amazement in his eyes as he learns to decode a new word and make sense of what he sees.

The first step on his journey is without words - something that surprised me as it is so different from how I was taught to read.  His school books that are sent home to be read nightly have no words in.  His school told us that children need to learn to be storytellers before they learn words.  These books teach them about the importance of pictures, the wonders of imagination and that every part of this new adventure is fun.

HP got in touch recently to tell me about a new book they are creating and stories in so many ways, I loved the idea of contributing to one, of reading it with my son, whether through the traditional way with words, or letting him tell a story with the pictures, and letting him know I helped create it.

Five pages had already been written by other bloggers and illustrated by a very talented man named Tom Percival, so I was excited to influence the fate of Harrison and Hugo.  After having three boys, I was done with baby blue and consequently bright colours and all things rainbow have become a big part of our life and I wanted my page to reflect this.  I loved the idea of Hugo no longer in blue but full of different shades - something that would be easy to discuss with a toddler like Archie who is learning their colours, something for a school aged child like Dylan to point out as absurd and something that reminds me of my childhood, when the printer ran out of ink and you ended up printing photos in the most preposterous colours.

The theme to the story is never letting your imagination run out, and HP Instant Ink means your printer need never run out of ink either.  By signing up to the service, your printer automatically orders new cartridges every time you get low.  From as low as £1.99 a month it is a great way to save money too! You can find out all the details about the service here

To see the story so far, click here.  I can't wait to see the finished book and find out what happens to Hugo and Harrison!
