A Vegan Kid's Christmas Party

Every Monday since the beginning of May, I have had two extra boys for the day.  It has been exciting and exhausting in equal measures, there are days I think four is easier than two as they tend to pair up, and days I need a megaphone and a whistle.  Hitting the third trimester in this pregnancy means things are coming to an end though, and yesterday was my last Monday with the four boys.

To celebrate, I decided we would have a little Christmas party in the afternoon, but with two being vegan, I had to be a bit more creative in what I bought, so I went to the big Tesco nearby as they have quite an extensive free from section.  The boys (as of this weekend) are 1,2,3 and 4 so I thought a little indoor picnic would be perfect, sat on a blanket by the Christmas tree, with a festive film and some stickers for after.

I bought a selection of snacky bits, with some seasonal specials included, like the Christmas tree crumpets, and Christmas pudding flavoured Nakd bars alongside what I know is easy to prepare whilst looking after a crowd of toddlers - pitta strips and carrot sticks with hummus, sausage rolls, sausages, crisps and fruit.

I served it up with snowman plates and napkins that I had picked up in the January sales last year and all four boys loved it.  They washed it down with Soya milkshakes and happily sat captivated by the Polar Express!

Whilst vegan isn't a lifestyle choice we have made, it was surprisingly easy to find some festive food, and my two aren't bothered what is in it as long as there is plenty! I didn't have the time to do too much preperation, but these boys are happiest with things they can choose themselves, and they loved the variety.

I am looking forward to having a quieter week in future (well until little pretzel arrives), but I am going to miss the looks as I walk down the street quite clearly pregnant with a double buggy and a toddler holding on either side.  Our boys are the best of friends and they all enjoy their time together.

As a calming pre-bed activity, I decided we would stick to stickers as they are a guaranteed winner.  I had a back up craft but they were all pretty tired, so armed with white card and sheets of stickers we all made cards .

Our little Christmas party was a big hit with all four of the boys and I managed to sneak in a Christmas tree crumpet too!

  1. My Auntie is a vegan and she used to own a Vegan bed and breakfast in Somerset. Random fact of the day. I don't envy anyone cooking vegan if they're not used to it! x

  3. I really like the Christmas pudding bars too - possibly more than a lot of real christmas puds!
