Mr Men Birthday Party

Dylan has been getting excited about his birthday for ages, all his invitations are hand written, he has chosen the place, what he wants his cake to look like and every detail - the fact that he wasn't born until August didn't stop the party planning beginning as soon as Christmas was over and done with.  We were asked to throw a Mr Men birthday party to celebrate that Roger Hargreaves would have celebrated his birthday today and I knew the boys would love a reason to party!

In honour of his birthday, two new books are now available, Mr Men Birthday Party as well as a Silly Birthday book that can be personalised with your child's details.

As the weather has been so nice recently, we decided to throw our birthday party outside, and we had a birthday picnic party instead.  Armed with our Mr Men plates, cups, napkins and table cloth we took our tea to the park and the boys loved our own special party.

No birthday party is complete without cake, although most cakes are better when a three year old hasn't sat on them! (this one is available from Tesco).  Being the ultra prepared parent I am, I of course forgot a knife, but we got into the party spirit with our very own cake smash - the boys couldn't believe their luck when I told them they could dig in!

Our party wouldn't have been complete without a fancy dress competition and there were three entrants (the bloke was never going to get involved and Archie wasn't feeling great and decided not to take part).  We have. . .

Halloween Party for Toddlers

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

I have always loved Halloween; the excuse to dress up and eat lots of sweet treats, and although the boys are still too young to really appreciate it, I decided to throw a little party for them and a few of their friends.  It seemed a great excuse to get them together and a lovely Sunday afternoon activity.

A trip to Tescos for supplies and a few home-made touches, and here are the final results.

A 90th Birthday

Family is so important to me and I feel incredibly lucky to come from such a big and loving one.  I have lots of Aunties and Uncles both close and far, and although my grandparents are sadly no longer around, I do have a Great Aunt who celebrated turning 90 this week.

Cue a big party, cousins, cupcakes and baby cuddles.  The party was held at a relatives house and their beautiful garden had a gazebo full of goodies to eat, chairs and tables for chatting and plenty of space for the little ones to run around.

Uncles and cousins kept the children amused with giant footballs and a pinata filled with sweeties, and everyone enjoyed a good catch up.  We gathered from all over the country, and my Aunty from Australia even managed to time her visit so that she could be there.  There are not many occasions that bring us all together but 90 years is a pretty impressive achievement!

Growing up with such a close extended family was an amazing experience and I really hope that my children get to benefit from having so many wonderful relatives around too.  Dylan loves seeing his great aunties and uncles and playing with my cousin's children (and grandchildren).  Archie had other babies to sit and chew things with and I got to eat 6 different deserts(the sign of a good day)!

It happened to be my birthday on exactly the same day but my 26 years is nothing in comparison to the 90 that my great Aunt was celebrating.  It was lovely to spend the day with the people that are important to me though, those that have known me my whole life and who love and care for my babies.

I hope that my Aunty had a birthday to remember and I hope that in 64 years time I can get quite as many loved ones together to celebrate my special day too!  I hope that my boys grow up surrounded by people they love, and that they learn the true importance of family.

My Gorgeous Family

I have been lucky enough to grow up with a wonderful family around me.  My mum and dad both come from big familys so I have a lot of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and other relatives, many of them still living locally.  I remember how big our Christmases were as a child, with as many of us as could fit under one roof.  We played games until the early hours and devoured tins and tins of Quality Street and Roses.

I hope Dylan grows up surrounded by people that love him and although he only has a couple of cousins at the moment he has lots of aunts and uncles  and some grandparents who adore him.  I hope family is as important to him as it is to me and that he always has people around him who care so much.

cousins, masquerade ball

This weekend to celebrate my cousin's 40th and her son's 21st we attended a Masquerade Ball up in Northampton and it was lovely to have so many of us together.  I left the bloke and Dylan at home and set off for some girly time with my gorgeous sister.  My sister and I are very close even though she lives in London now and spend most of our time giggling when we are together.  Not only did I get to enjoy a much needed night out at the ball, I got to wear my gorgeous Tiffany Rose dress again, this time with much bigger bump!

I lasted about half the night in my high heels before swapping to some gorgeous Butterfly Twists that I had stashed in my handbag once I gave in to the dance floor.  They are a brilliant handbag essential and were so comfortable it felt like I was wearing slippers!  They also went perfectly with my bag and mask meaning nobody knew they were not part of the original outfit!

This made it much easier to stay out until midnight, and I was not about to go home early after coming all this way.  As the alcohol flowed for everyone else, I enjoyed a nice glass of Coca Cola content with the fact I would be feeling great the next morning!

It was lovely to have a night away from the little dude and a double bed to myself in the hotel.   Being pregnant, I also made the most of the breakfast buffet, sat around a huge table with the twelve of us that had stayed in the hotel.  I made it home just in time for some cuddles with my gorgeous boy before bed time.  I know it will be quite some time before I get another night like this as with a dependant newborn getting out is not as easy.

Family will always be such an important part of my life, both my imediate family and my extended family and I can't wait for Squish to meet them all very soon.
