What the Boys Wore - Smafolk

Kids clothes should be fun, comfortable, playful and soft.  Smafolk captures this perfectly with their range of colourful oekotex childrenswear.  Their signature apple print comes in different colours and styles and they release a new collection every few months.

Smafolk are a brand we know well and I was really excited to see what they would send me for the boys.  The brown and blue theme they chose meant the boys looked fantastic together, and the range is designed so that you can mix and match styles to create different looks.

Dylan's outfit consisted of a long sleeved bikes top and some blue velour baggy trousers.  The top is a great fit with plenty of stretch and I think the blue highlights mean it really suits him.  The velour trousers were not something I would have chosen for him before, but I am a convert, mostly due to the fact he doesn't wan't to take them off.  They have elasticated waist and cuffs making them incredibly practical and the velour is hard wearing.  They make a great alternative to jeans whilst still looking great on an older child.

Archie's apple print baggy leggings are my favourite item we were sent and he has been wearing them as soon as they come out of the wash each time.  They are perfect for his active lifestyle with stretch and they are still looking as good as new despite being worn so much.  I love the fit as they are slightly looser than leggings but not as baggy as sweat pants.  Archie's long sleeved tee is covered in castles and dragons which he adores.  Whilst I wouldn't generally pair this outfit together, I love both items individually, and we usually go for a print and a plain together.

Finn's all in one shares the same print as Archie's trousers -  a print Smafolk use every season in different ways.  It is super soft and a great cut on him, being longer and slimmer than most UK shops.  We went for the size up and whilst it is a little big, it still works.  I love the simplicity of this print, and the way you can get almost any item in it, from t-shirts to bedding to muslin squares.  It has an envelope neck and poppers along the bottom.

Smafolk is a Danish brand and you can clearly see the Scandinavian style in the way most of their items have repeat prints.  The small business has grown over the last 10 years and made a name for themselves, renowned for great quality and clothing that sparks imagination.

We find the fit quite true to size, possibly a little generous (Finn is wearing 74 /6-9, Archie is wearing 92-98 /2-3 and Dylan is wearing 110-116 /5-6).  It is best to base the sizing on the actual height of your child in centimetres.  Bare in mind that all these pieces have plenty of stretch, so they should last a little longer too.

What we love most is how the clothes move.  There is nothing restrictive, no fiddly buttons or stiff legs, nothing to stop them rolling down a hill, climbing up a wall or zipping across a park.  These clothes are designed to not only look unique and stylish but to be played in and with three little boys desperate for new adventures, that is exactly what we need.

There are a few UK stockists but these are some of our favourites.  You can also buy direct from Smafolk.

  4. I really do like the blue velour trousers. There seems to be very little choice of boys' trousers about unless you want jeans.

  10. These outfits are fabulous! When my boys were younger it was really hard to find really nice prints like this. And, both my boys are huge fans of tracksuit bottoms as they are more comfy than jeans :) #love2blog
