Five Ways to Bond with Your Baby

Cora was born into a big family, she has three big brothers that demand my time and attention and where I would spend hours cuddled up with my first newborn, things aren't that easy with the fourth.  Finding different ways to keep the wonderful bond between us is a priority and I still find time every day to just enjoy her on her own, even if it does mean that I don't get much (any) time to myself.  There are little things we do each day that keep us close, that are just between us and I love how bonded they make me feel with my new baby.

Babywearing - Cora wants to be close to me at all times, understandably, and I want to keep her safe.  Her brothers adore her, sometimes a bit too much so keeping her with me makes sense.  As well as using a sling to make getting out and about easier, we also use it in the house.  She is settled when held against my chest, I have two hands free for her brothers and we can have skin to skin.

Breastfeeding - Cora is exclusively breastfed which means that as soon as she is hungry she comes back to me.  I didn't feel like my bond was any less with Finn when I had to bottlefeed him, but I find there to be something so precious about breastfeeding and knowing how reliant she is on me and me alone.

Co-sleeping - Co-sleeping works well for us.  It enables me to get some sleep and Cora to feel secure.  She sleeps the first stretch of each night in her crib and then comes in with me for the rest of it.  It feels so natural to keep her close at night and it means we both get more sleep!

Baby Massage - When the boys all go to bed, the house suddenly goes quiet and it is a great time to have some special time with my baby girl.  We love baby massage as a way to reconnect after a busy day and it keeps her skin lovely and smooth too.  The skin to skin contact releases the love hormone Oxytocin which helps us to connect and bond (I have some Huggies wipes handy for change timeGayle Berry, Infant massage & baby yoga expert says“Nappy changing offers a special time to bond with your baby as you have the opportunity for eye contact, touch and to talk together. Reducing artificial smells in the products you use means that baby can recognise your special scent which encourages the bonding process and is kind to both you and your baby’s skin”. They are made with 99%  pure water and completely free from nasty chemicals such as alcohol, phenoxyethanol and parabens.  To find out how HUGGIES® Wipes naturally care for your little one’s skin visit www.huggieswipes.co.uk to find the full range. )

Bathing together - Until she is big enough to go in with her brothers, Cora comes in the bath with me.  We both love the calmness, the opportunity to have skin to skin and being able to feed her and comfort her if she needs it.  I would love to take her swimming one day too and we have plenty of HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® ready with the new Disney© Pixar Finding Dory characters on.  You can pick them up in the baby aisle or visit www.littleswimmers.co.uk for tips and advice. HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® is inviting families to “Get set, splash”, inspiring them to enjoy fun in the water with their little ones, giving them the confidence that they’ll be protected from any little accidents

I feel like my bond with Cora is as strong as with any of the others.  She gets so much of me, but she has three big brothers to love her as well.

Taking a Baby to the Beach

We are lucky enough to have a beach pretty local to us, but even if you don't, the chances are you will be visiting one this summer either as a day trip or on holiday.  Taking a baby to the beach can be fun as well as challenging, especially with older siblings as well.  As part of our role as Huggies® Little Swimmers® ambassadors we have been challenged to 'get set, splash' this summer which really isn't hard.  We love to be outdoors, the children love having the freedom to run around and water is all just part of the fun.

Finn's little swimmers are the perfect beach companion for him - he can wear them in the sand without me worrying about keeping him covered or any nasty accidents and if he decides to crawl off and explore in the sea then I know that they won't swell up or inflate.  The fun characters from the upcoming Disney© Pixar film 'Finding Dory' mean they look bright and fun in the sun and they are easy to tear off at the end of the day when it is time to take him home.

I have put together a little video with my top tips for taking a baby to the beach - but my main tip is to be relaxed - eating a little sand doesn't do them any harm, the beach is full of shells and rocks and things to explore if you forget the buckets and spades, and as long as you have some wipes and some Huggies® Little Swimmers® in your changing bag you are pretty much set!

So what are your top tips for taking a baby to the beach?

I have made this video as part of my role as a Huggies little Swimmers ambassador

Little Swimmers at the Beach

The British weather is so unpredictable in May and we have days where we huddle under an umbrella on the school run all wrapped up followed by days of shorts and t-shirts, ice creams and bare feet.  Our weeks aren't easy to plan and we are enjoying the spontaneity, looking out the window each morning and deciding what to do.

As a Huggies® Little Swimmers®  ambassador we always have a couple of swim nappies in the changing bag ready to go and it paid off this week when we popped down to the town and realised how warm it was.  Finn and I decided an ice cream at the beach was the way to go (well Finn fell asleep so I decided to get an ice cream) and when he woke up we had a lovely play on the beach and splash in the sea.  He could happily crawl around in just a t-shirt and his nappy and it didn't swell up when he plonked himself in the sea to play with the wet sand.

I love how easy the nappies are to just pull on and tear off and the great Disney©  Pixar Finding Dory characters meant they looked really cute as he crawled around with his little bum in the air too.

We made a little video about our mini-adventure and how easy the Huggies® Little Swimmers®  are to get out and about with.

I know the beach is going to feature heavily in our lives over the next few months, we are so lucky to have it practically on our doorstep and I love that my children are building memories so  similar to my own from childhood. Our Little Swimmers are perfect for Finn for these days - the freedom to explore the sand and sea but the protection (for him and for everyone else!).

Pick up a pack of Huggies® Little Swimmers® from Ocado and you could be in with a chance of winning tickets to see Finding Dory on the big screen

HUGGIES® Little Swimmers®

Summer is right around the corner, some days I can nearly smell it and I start looking at shorts and suncream and planning our days at the beach.  Of course there is still the odd day where it feels like we are only just shaking off Winter, but on the whole it is feeling a whole lot like Spring down here.  Every now and then we get a day of unexpected sunshine, enough that we throw off our jumpers, bare our arms and come home with slightly sunkissed cheeks.

This summer I am excited to be a Huggies® Little Swimmer® Get Set, Splash ambassador - well Finn is anyway!  With the launch of their new swim pants featuring Dory from the upcoming Disney Pixar film 'Finding Dory', I know this little boy of mine is going to be out splashing at every opportunity he can.  He is a real water baby and we now have a couple of pairs of swim pants in the changing bag so that if the sun suddenly decided to shine and he fancies a crawl into the sea then we are prepared.  They don't leak or expand in the water so they won't get in the way of his chubby legs as he crawls and splashes and I can guarantee no nasty accidents!

I am partnering with Huggies® to show you how easy it is to get out and get splashing.  Impromptu adventures are our favourite kind and keeping a pack of Little Swimmers® in your changing bag means you are always prepared!  Whether it is the beach, a pool or a garden sprinkler this summer is the time to make a splash and make memories.

With Archie now at nursery three days a week I am looking forward to getting splashing much more with my water baby and I can't wait to start taking him swimming properly, with our Huggies® Little Swimmers® and our lovely new towel too!  HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® is inviting families to “Get set, splash”, inspiring them to enjoy fun in the water with their little ones, giving them the confidence that they’ll be protected from any little accidentsTo join in the fun pick up your pack of HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® from the baby aisle and visit www.littleswimmers.co.uk for more information, top tips and advice

Teatime Picnics

Summer is all about picnics, and we use any excuse.  We often take our lunch down to the park at the end of our road and day trips are usually accompanied by scotch eggs and strawberries.  Whilst the evenings are still light, we have been having a few teatime picnics too, grabbing our blanket and sandwiches and heading to the beach or a park.

This weekend the boys had a late nap, so it seemed the perfect excuse to head out late.  It wasn't sunny, but it wasn't too cold either and so the park was deserted.  I am loving our new Huggies style on the go pouch,  it is perfect to pop on the buggy or hang from a bag and makes the wipes easy to access - something very important with messy eaters like mine! I even hung it from the sling when we went exploring afterwards as I knew that the mud and sand would end up everywhere!

The refill packs for these reusable pouches are made with natural absorbent fibres, and are free from nasties like parabens, phenoxyethanol, alcohol and perfume.  I can use them on the big two as well as the baby and I don't have to go rooting through my bag any more to find them.

I took home four worn out boys, empty packing and crumbs.  Hopefully we can fit in a few more teatime picnics before school begins and the night starts earlier.

Huggies and Fearne Cotton

You may have noticed that I am working with Huggies wipes as a brand ambassador this year, but the exciting news is that they have recently appointed one extra member of the team - Fearne Cotton!

She is helping to launch the new 'on the go' pouches that we have been finding so useful (and will be sharing all about them in a seperate post) and just like us, Fearne has those SOS moments (which seem to occur far too often when you have a baby with reflux) where you need a wet wipe within reach.

My Pampered Baby

Finn was born a blogger's child, and that comes with responsibilities.  He didn't seem to mind too much having to visit a baby spa though, in fact he seemed completely in his element.

Picture fresh white walls, a feeling of calm as soon as you step through the door, relaxing music and a warm welcome from Laura Sevenus, the owner and an infant swimming expert.  The Baby Spa is the kind of place you can picture celebrities and is located in an exclusive Kensington postcode.

Finn seemed to feel at home as soon as we arrived, and he certainly took well to life as a pampered baby.  Having three under fours, I am not allowed to take the boys swimming on my own, so this was Finn's first time in water other than the bath, and the Bubby was unlike anything I have seen before.  A patented floatation device that looks like a donut around their neck, it allows babies to float and stretch out whilst remaining safe.  I have a baby with a very ticklish neck, so putting it on wasn't so easy, but I could see his body relax as soon as he slid into the water, and he floated around looked relaxed and content.

The Huggies Wipes Challenge

With three small children, we get through a lot of wipes, so we were delighted when Huggies asked us to be ambassadors for their new style wipes.  Not only will you find them in the changing bag and nappy unit, wipes are an essential in every room of our house.  From wiping bums, sticky fingers and faces to cleaning the coffee table (it is just too easy to use a wipe!) we use our Huggies wipes for so many different things.

We love the pure for Finn's delicate newborn skin and the natural care for cleaning up the impressive messes that Archie manages to create.  Huggies are asking you to challenge your wipes, and you can get a free packet just by registering here.  If you take a snap of your messy tot, whether it be rosy red chops from spaghetti bolognese or the inevitable ice cream everywhere on a sunny day, you can be in with a chance of winning one of these amazing prizes:

£500 in Asda vouchers,
A Disney hamper or
A year's supply of wipes.

I feel like it would be unfair to enter myself as I know these mucky pups are winners for sure
