Leaf Kicking

The half term holidays are here and the weather is still pretty mild for this time of the year.  We aren't reaching for our coats most days, we are managing long afternoons at the park without getting too chilly and it feels like we can really take in the beauty of Autumn together.  Dylan was sent home from school with a list of activities to do in half term, things like going on a train or bus,  baking a cake and kicking leaves in the park.

Leaf throwing, Autumn activities with kids

We are going to try and fit in as many of the activities as we can and kicking leaves was one of the easiest to cross off.  Our local park has plenty of leaves so armed with our best leaf kicking shoes, we went exploring.  I was sent a pair of Chatsworth boots from Strive Footwear and I love being able to join in with the children.

The ground was damp from rain and the leaves were more soggy than crispy but it didn't stop the fun.  We threw them in the air and danced as they fell, we built mountains and snowmen and stomped through them.  We kicked the leaves as high into the air as we could and we sat in the middle of them to examine them properly.

We found fallen trees and practiced our balancing and jumping off the ends and we played hide and seek amongst the ones still standing.  My boots have supportive technology which follows the natural contours of your feet which makes them not only super comfortable but also orthodontic and better for my posture.  Being on my feet so much with the children has made me think a lot more about the shoes I wear and these are perfect for our Autumn activities.

Cora loves the freedom of the park and the space to explore.  Whilst the boys are kicking and jumping she is learning to run and climb, discovering different textures and sensations and gaining independence.

We have so many more autumn adventures planned for the week and I think these experiences are so valuable for my curious, imaginative children as they learn about the world.

These Two

These two, only 16 months apart, are much like a double act.  Where one goes, the other follows.  I worried about having them so close together as Finn's first year was far from trouble free and at 16 months he was still very much a baby.  Until she arrived he was still cuddled to sleep curled up in my arms, carried around the house as he wasn't yet walking and treated in most ways like a baby.  Cora came along and changed everything, yet he never got jealous.  He loved her from the beginning and as she has become more able and more mobile their relationship has grown and changed.

They squabble, he pushes her and she bites him, but most of the time, they can be found together.  They sit and play so well, he tries to teach her colours and show her how to do things properly.  They cook meals together at their play kitchen, stack bobbins in their bedroom and take it in turns to push each other round in the Little Tikes car in the garden.  If things go quiet then you can usually find them in the bathroom, Finn squeezing toothpaste everywhere whilst Cora dutifully holds the toothbrush in place.

When we go out, just the three of us, Finn wants her to chase him and she does it giggling as she goes.  He tries to hold her hand to help her walk  and most of the time she won't let him but when she does, he is full of smiles.

These two are so much fun to watch and I think those 16 months will only shrink from now on as Cora tries to catch up with her brothers.

These two were sent these gorgeous outfits from JoJo Maman Bebe and I just love the co-ordination.  The dress is made of the softest cord and the trousers look so comfy and are soft and lined.  The stripy tops are going to be Autumn/Winter staples as they go with everything too.  Cora is in 12-18 and Finn is in 2-3 and both have a lot of growing room (but both are quite petite for their ages).

What Cora Wore // Iglo and Indi

'Is it much different, having a girl?'  I get asked this all the time and at the moment, it really isn't.  Cora is a baby just as the boys were babies.  She feeds, sleeps, poops and cuddles.  She likes chewing things, standing up with support and then chewing more things - much the same as her brothers did.  Changing her nappy is obviously very different but that is about it . . . well until it comes to dressing her.  I have gone so much more girly than I imagined I would and I am loving being able to explore the other side of the shop.

My lines on what is 'for boys' and 'for girls' is pretty blurry and Finn has plenty of clothes with 'girls' written in the label.  Dresses were a step to far for me though, and whilst Cora is still non-mobile I am enjoying dressing her in them.  I love stretchy, comfy and practical.  Not too many frills or bows, not too much pink but still feminine, still 'girly'.

This fox dress from Iglo and Indi at Dapperbaby is just perfect.  The cotton is so so soft, the colour is beautiful (in case you haven't noticed I love all things yellow) and the fox on the front makes it look fun.  This dress is size 6-12 months and Cora is an average sized 5 month old.  I love that she will get so much wear from this as it fits fine now but has plenty of growing space too.

And because this is currently my favourite thing in her wardrobe and because she was in a super smiley mood when I tried to take a photo, I took a lot of photos . . .

I paired the dress with some socks I picked up somewhere ages ago and I can't quite remember where (I think you can find them on ebay) and her Tootsa MacGinty fox hat  - I love this outfit!  We are popping tights on underneath the socks now that it is getting more chilly.

I don't think it will be long until dresses become impractical and this little lady of mine wants to start moving, so I am making the most of being able to dress her however I like!

Thank you to the lovely Emma at Dapperbaby for this dress - we love it!
